Every passenger over age 5 must have a card. Children under 5 ride free of charge, but the exemption is for only one child per paying adult. A parent travelling with several children under age 5 must pay 50% of the regular ticket price for the other children, and can do this via a youth multi-ride ticket (kartisiya).

There are two types of "Rav-Kav" cards:

1. Transferable "Rav-Kav" – without identifying details. You do not have to show identification, a picture, or personal details when obtaining this card.
   
2. Personal "Rav-Kav" – bears a picture and includes the personal details of its owner.
   

1. In contrast to the transferable "Rav-Kav", the Personal version is insured. Even if it is lost, stolen or damaged, you will not lose your money – your balance will be transferred to a new "Rav-Kav" (for a NIS 10 fee).
   
2. Passengers entitled to discounts include: Children up to age 18, senior citizens, people physical disabilities, students and others. The relevant discounts can only be given via the Personal Rav Kav.
   
3. In contrast to the transferable "Rav-Kav", which limits its holder to the purchase of a regular multi-ride ticket (kartisiya) or one-day pass (chofshi yomi), the Personal Rav Kav can be recharged with all the types of tickets (including chofshi chodshi) and gives its owner the discounts for which he or she is eligible.
   

1. Go to one of the service points throughout the city.
   
2. Purchasing a transferable "Rav-Kav": There is no need to present identification or a picture. However, remember that card will not be insured and you will not be eligible for designated discounts (except for quantity discounts such as multi-ride tickets).
   
3. A Personal "Rav-Kav": Bring your identification card to a service point, fill out a form, have your picture taken and you will receive your "Rav-Kav" card.
   
4. Residents who are eligible for discounts must bring appropriate documentation to receive the applicable discounts.
   
5. When purchasing a ticket package and charging the card, make sure the card is placed securely inside the automatic recharging device. Do not move the card during recharging. On the bus, the recharging device is located near the driver; please follow the instructions on the device. 
   
6. Note: There is no agent to help you use the automatic recharging device. It is therefore important to carefully follow the instructions displayed on the device.

If your "Rav-Kav" is charged with a regular multi-ride ticket (kartisiya), you can validate it twice – once for yourself and once for your wife. Youths are also permitted to swipe their youth cards for other youths.
